Tribute to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women of Canada
Start date: 1 March, 2017
End date: 15 March, 2017
At the Genesis Centre (Calgary, AB), the first two weeks of March will feature a powerful display paying tribute to the hundreds of missing and murdered indigenous women of Canada over the last 40 years. Accepting community donations of women's and girl’s shoes to represent these women that are often forgotten, this display aims to create dialogue around this subject and a sense of awareness of the magnitude of this issue.
Nature of the Project Reach
We are hoping to reach a city-wide audience. While this display will be temporarily permanent in our Centre for two weeks, it is open to all who may come to see it.
1) Through visual display and informational signage, create a sense of awareness regarding the magnitude of the nearly 1200 missing and murdered indigenous women throughout the last 40 years.
2) Create an opportunity for community members to contribute in the process.
We are hoping to receive community donations of shoes, as well as any assistance in terms of information on the missing and murdered indigenous women of Canada so that we can ensure our display is meaningful, accurate, and educational.
