On Canada's 150th anniversary, Canadian Stage presents Territorial Tales, a new initiative focused on telling stories of Indigenous and newcomer youth. In partnership with the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC), Sketch and Kids Up Front, Canadian Stage will provide a platform for young creators across the GTA to share their experiences or arrival and settlement in Canada through the development of new stage works to be performed at Shakespeare in High Park in the summer of 2017.
Nature of the Project Reach
Territorial Tales will reach diverse youth through the story submission phase, casting, auditions and performance phases. Pay what you can performances at High Park in August 2017 will reach large audiences of Torontonians and visitors to the city.
Over the spring and summer of 2017, Territorial Tales will seek to:
> Celebrate Canada 150 through the telling of diverse stories and perspectives of young Canadians
> Expand the professional and personal networks of youth through participation
> Provide a platform for creative expression and skill development for diverse and Indigenous youth
> Reach thousands of audience members at High Park with new, dynamic, youth-driven theatrical works
> Increase broader recognition of the importance of young and diverse voices in shaping our national narrative
