Selwyn ReLeaf 150
Start date: 22 June, 2016
End date: 30 June, 2017
The “ReLeaf Selwyn 150” project will see the planting of 150 Maple trees throughout the area of Selwyn Township by its residents and volunteers. Over the next year, leading up to July 1st, 2017 (Canada’s 150th Anniversary), Selwyn Township residents will be able to apply through the municipality to have a Maple tree planted to commemorate a special occasion, family member, friend, etc.
Nature of the Project Reach
Through this project, we will bring together the four main villages within Selwyn Township; Bridgenorth, Ennismore, Lakefield and Young’s Point, to celebrate Canada’s Anniversary and bring the community, as a whole, together.
1. Commemorate Canada’s 150th Anniversary and create a permanent reminder within the Township of Selwyn for years to come.
2.Bring together residents from throughout the community to celebrate Canada’s 150th Anniversary and take part in a collaborative community project.
3. Plant 150 Maple trees, not only to commemorate Canada’s 150th Anniversary, but also to create a positive environmental impact within the community especially in areas that have been affected by the Emerald Ash Borer.
The Township will coordinate a series of community events in which the successful residents will come together to pick up their tree and meet volunteers who will be delivering and helping plant their commemorative tree. This ensures that the tree is planted appropriately, that the residents are provided with the proper care instructions and that both volunteers and residents are able to socialize and converse, enhancing the community feel. We will place particular emphasis on having volunteers assist residents from different areas of the Township so that they are able to meet individuals from areas other than their own.
