A one day celebration of cultural diversity and social inclusion by showcasing the foods, cultures, and histories of our members and community members of Toronto's East End.
Nature of the Project Reach
RHAP hopes to have local community members, as well as RHAG tenants and members attend this event. All are welcome to attend this event. Community members are also encouraged to join our tenants in sharing their culture through food, games, stories, etc. If anyone in the community would like to have a table at our event please contact emily.ca.
In 1971, Canada led the world – declaring multiculturalism official state policy. In 2002, an annual Canadian Multiculturalism Day was designated. Another official marker to encourage a cultural
mosaic not a cultural melting pot. Event goals are to celebrate multiculturalism as a core Canadian democratic value and not "just pretty words" and to stimulate conversations about past,
present and future. Let’s discuss: “What values and goals helped form Canada? What’s changed since Confederation in 1867 and since its Centennial?” “How can we ensure equality and pride for
all Canadians in 2017? In 2067?” Multiple cultural showcases (food, art, music, dance and storytelling) will be featured. Each will be hosted by a RHAP community member from that culture. Our youth leaders and volunteers will head up teams for "Toronto Trivia Jenga" and "Pop a Balloon" True/ False game about Canada and presented cultures. Honouring diversity and inclusion, kites from these cultures will be flown together at event end. Attended by RHAP members, friends and family from greater Toronto East
communities and led by RHAP youth group leaders, volunteers and community members, it is a new celebration that will be adopted as an annual tradition. The timing of its debut is truly
