Installation of park to cellebrate 150 years of Confederation.
Start date: 30 April, 2016
End date: 1 July 2017
Designing and installing a park and gardens on a 4.7 acre park on Georgian Bay where Keewatin is parked. This park will salute the pioneers who built the town of Port McNicoll, "Gateway to the West" and a salute to the hundreds of thousands of immigrants that passed through this town to populate western Canada to complete the confederation of the country..This is a combined effort between the KEEWATIN, the Township of Tay, the community of Port McNicoll and a large developer who is donating the land and substantial funding.
Nature of the Project Reach
Keewatin attracts 30,000 visitors. The ship is a visual item photographed by thousands of visitors, used by film makers and artists. It attracts international attention to our small town. The garden/park will ad to the appeal, serve the neighbourhood and be a symbol of just how Confederation and the populating of Alberta and Saskatchewan built Canada
We want to provide a quiet area on the Lake in this Park which is being donated to the Town and where Keewatin is docked. In itself a popular attraction, a spectacular park will join the already popular Keewatin. We are also looking at a "splash pad' for families. The plants and trees will all be from Georgian Bay and the park will also have a stage/gazebo where entertainment can be staged for festivals and gatherings. We are surrounded by large rocks which will be assembled as monuments to the people who lived the dreams of 1867 and worked through to 1920 to complete them. The work on the park, gathering the plants and the continued maintenance will be done by the Volunteers and the local community.
The design and development of a 4.7 acre park to provide shade, gardens, a gazebo, event area and a "children's splash pad" in the honour and saluting the pioneers who built this gateway to the West and the hundreds of thousands who past through here going west to build Canada. Most materials are located in the community and surrounds
