Sharing stories across Canada of maritime milestones through personal narratives and art that capture the beauty of our 202,080 km of coastline
Nature of the Project Reach
Broad Reach Foundation for Youth Leaders envisioned Project Coastline as a way to celebrate Canada's 150th Anniversary by engaging youth, including newcomers in highlighting our country's maritime heritage. We are connecting youth aged 13-24 from Toronto, Kingston, Montreal, St. Joseph de la Rive, Lunenburg and Halifax to form a Youth Skippers Council. This Council is designing and putting forth in their local communities art, story-telling and experiential nautical activities to celebrate the wealth and challenges of Canadian maritime heritage. As this website develops, we will share stories across Canada of maritime milestones through personal narratives and art that capture the beauty of our 202,080 km of coastline and our communities there.
As a result of this project, youth will build two canoes called 1867 and 2017 that will be launched July 1st, 2017.
