Peterborough County 150 – A Passport to Celebrations
Start date: 1 June, 2016
End date: 30 December, 2017
Our project will increase the awareness and celebrate rural communities’ contributions (both past and present) to the cultural fabric of our nation. This project is a collaboration with our Townships and local First Nations Communities (to be confirmed) and develop a “Passport to Peterborough County” to guide people to specific celebrations and events in each Township. These events will be focused on the unique contributions/stories that each Township contribute to the tapestry of our County’s past and rural culture. It will also include key engagement initiatives focused on participation by all ages (including geo-caching, trivia, scavenger hunts, culinary events, music/entertainment and outdoor activities to name a few). All these events and the Passport will lead to a culminating community celebration event and the unveiling of a dedication monument to permanently recognize our place in time (including a time capsule) to honour Canada’s 150th birthday and to reiterate our own mantra “Our History – Your Future”.
Nature of the Project Reach
“Peterborough County 150 – A Passport to Celebrations” will inspire a stronger sense of community pride and belonging by encouraging participation in celebrating the past 150 years of our rural heritage and building on the foundation for a stronger future together.
Our goal is to inspire our residents and visitors to actively participate in the rural experience and vibrancy of such a large geographically and culturally diverse area. We will make a difference by promoting a sense of belonging and pride in our community.
