Start date: 1 January, 2017
End date: 31 December, 2017
This year will be a milestone year for Canada and Orillia as we mark 150 years since confederation and incorporation. As Ontarians, we can also celebrate 150 years as a province within this great nation!
On the occasion of our 150th birthday, the City of Orillia is inviting the community to share in what it means to be an Orillian.
A year-long celebration, join in the many activities, new and old, that explore our rich culture, heritage and traditions.
Nature of the Project Reach
Residents and visitors alike
- to engage every resident in a meaningful way in the celebrations.
- to offer the public an opportunity to explore, experience or reflect on the people, places and moments defining our City's past, present, and future.
- to ensure the City's 150 celebrations appeal to the varied interests of residents, organizations, business owners, and visitors alike
In an effort to engage every resident in a meaningful way in these celebrations, we are still looking for organizations hosting activities and events within the City of Orillia focused on the 150th. These can:
•Be of national or local significance, as we share our stories - and sesquicentennial - with the nation.
•Include, but are not limited to: ◦Festivals ◦Concerts ◦Workshops ◦Contests ◦Exhibits ◦Collaborative art projects ◦Gallery openings ◦Tours ◦Theatrical performances ◦Storytelling circles ◦Book launches ◦Lectures
•Focus on any number of topics, including: ◦Politics ◦Sports ◦Culture ◦Recreation & Leisure ◦Business ◦Built heritage
•Be free or charge admission.
•New or existing.
With the goal to ensure the City's 150 celebrations appeal to the varied interests of residents, organizations, business owners, and visitors alike, the possibilities are truly endless!
