New Canadians: Then and Now
Start date: 1 May, 2017
End date: 3 June, 2017
My parents brought us here to Canada in 1973. We have lots of photos from our early days as children and then as youth. My Project idea is to canvas local amateur artists ages 13-25, I would ask them to use an old photo from their or their family's early immigration years to Canada and ask them to create a modern visual art piece to be included in my art installation. Attached to the art piece would be a 150-word explanation of the significance of immigration to Canada by the person depicted in the art. At my Art Installation, which would run for one weekend, I would have a DJ, hors d'ouvres while local audiences visit and view the art.
Nature of the Project Reach
My project would reach youth, their friends and families, and the people in the community as a whole.
The goal would be to celebrate Canada's 150th Anniversary of Confederation and to highlight young artists in the community.
Project Needs are: Funding, volunteers, catering and prizes.
