MZD’s Sesquicentennial Parties
Start date: 15 July, 2017
End date: 31 December, 2017
MZD is hosting four free Sesquicentennial Art Parties to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. Attendees are encouraged to participate in costume and to engage directly with art in performance. The artists featured at the parties will be from diverse artistic practices, heritages, and backgrounds. The parties show what a vibrant community Edmonton's McCauley neighbourhood is.
Nature of the Project Reach
We hope that diverse representation in our artists will encourage attendance from diverse audiences. We also hope to increase participation in events in the McCauley neighbourhood to continue to build its revitalization into a safe and vibrant community.
Each party will feature a headlining performing artist, who will help shape the theme of the event, which will be related to Canada’s history, culture, or future. Three opening acts will precede the headliners, and each evening will close with a band. Each party will also feature the work of a visual artist’s installation in our storefront gallery space, which will be installed the week before the party, and remain in the gallery for one week after.
Curators for themed, Canada 150 one-night party events. The curator/lead artist will be involved in selecting other artists and planning the event as well as showing their own work. CV/artist statement/samples of work. (deadline March 1/17)
