LOVE & LIGHT: CELEBRATING CANADA 150 WITH PRIDE
Start date: 10 June, 2017
End date: 10 June, 2017
Counterpoint Community Orchestra is pleased to announce its third concert of the 2016/17 Season, Love & Light: Celebrating Canada 150 with Pride. This concert will showcase the dynamism
that has sustained the world’s first LGBTQ orchestra for 33 years, with the world premiere of a social justice piece composed by orchestra member and cellist Andrew McClure to commemorate the one year anniversary of the Orlando nightclub shooting; and the Toronto premiere of Victor Davies’ Mennonite Piano Concerto performed by award-winning queer classical pianist Darren Creech; with guest conductor and veteran of the Toronto orchestra circuit, John Liddle.
Nature of the Project Reach
While located in the heart of downtown's LGBTQ community the reach of this project stretches from Orlando, Florida, to Winnipeg where the Mennonite Concerto was composed, to Toronto's Gay Village where the concert will take place at Saint Luke's United Church.
To deepen understanding and appreciation of contemporary classical music within the context of the Gay Rights/LGBTQ Movement. Celebrating Canada and Pride with LOVE.
Cross-promotion and collaboration with like-minded people, associations and organizations is most welcome.
