Looking Back and Ahead: Engaging Canadian Youth in Building our Inclusive Future

Young Canadian leaders with Down syndrome will give presentations in schools and to municipal councils, that illustrate how Canada has progressed towards inclusion since 1867, and empowering participants to take steps toward building a fully inclusive future.
Nature of the Project Reach
Young leaders with Down syndrome in select Canadian towns and cities will participate in researching history, developing a presentation and delivering it to schools and to their municipal or regional government. The presentation will end with the signing of a call to action on inclusion.
- Engage young Canadians in "seeing the ability", understanding inclusion, and pledging to build an inclusive future
- Educate young Canadians and decision-makers about Canada's historic treatment of people with disabilities, and its change since 1867
- Engage decision-makers in understanding inclusion and pledging to take action to build an inclusive future for their community.
