Illumination of the Jacques-Cartier Bridge
Start date: 30 July, 2015
End date: 30 December, 2027
As Canada commemorates the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, Montréal will also be celebrating its 375th anniversary. To mark these two major milestones, Montréal’s iconic Jacques Cartier Bridge will shine thanks to an interactive illumination project. One of the great engineering feats of the 20th century, this imposing steel structure enjoys not only a rich history, but a truly singular and stunning architecture, and is used by thousands of people to cross the St. Lawrence River each day.
Entitled “Living Connections”, this unique urban art project will be activated in real time by the changing seasons as well as the city’s vibrant pulse and energy. Data such as traffic, weather forecasts and virtual communications could change the movement, speed and intensity of the lighting in real time.
