I AM COMMITTED
Start date: 28 September, 2016
End date: 31 January, 2018
I AM COMMITTED challenges settler allies and to celebrate Canada's 150 PLUS by having their pictures taken for posters and on social media platforms to publicly commit to the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action to promote reconciliation and thus build a vibrant, healthy and inclusive community. This is the second phase of powerful poster campaign about intergenerational trauma (I AM AFFECTED). Posters will be in Mohawk, French and English and will feature prominent people and ordinary citizens and will be distributed broadly for posting. This is a collaborative initiative; we are working with PAANG (Professional Aboriginal Advocacy and Networking Group) in Hamilton. It will be launched in May 2017 at the Celebration of Growth, an annual social for the Indigenous community organized by PAANG.
Nature of the Project Reach
Although this project initiates in Hamilton it is designed to contribute to a national dialogue and advance the collaborative journey of reconciliation.
The Project inspires the development of a critical historical analysis of contemporary Indigenous and reconciliation issues as well as strategies for non-Indigenous Canadians to engage with Indigenous people, reflective of a mutually inherent responsibility. It is designed as a mechanism for learning, engagement and healing and to motivate individual citizens to take positive action and contribute to building an inclusive community.
Individuals and organizations can cover the cost to produce new posters that feature themselves. The idea is to grow interest and adoption of the commitment to the reconciliation goals.
