Honouring the Truth: Reconciliation in Burlington
Start date: 3 April, 2017
End date: 31 December, 2017
Honouring the Truth: Reconciliation in Burlington is a library-based community response to the Truth and Reconciliation Committee's Calls to Action. This initiative includes a public panel discussion on reconciliation, a public speaker series with Indigenous knowledge keepers, public plaques at all 7 library branches that honour the land, and mandatory cultural competency training for all library staff members.
Nature of the Project Reach
This program aims to build long-lasting relationships between BPL and Indigenous community members living in Burlington and Halton Region. Since it is rooted in library principles of equity and inclusion, BPL invites everyone (all ages and backgrounds) to participate in our community-wide conversation about reconciliation to help make our city an inclusive one!
This initiative aims to ignite a continuing community conversation that addresses the following 2 questions; what does reconciliation mean to Burlington residents? and what can Burlingtonians do to contribute to reconciliation?
