"Hiawatha and the Peacemaker" - Iroquois Legend
Start date: 8 March, 2017
End date: 8 March, 2017
Students are bringing to life the story, "Hiawatha and the Peacemaker". This story tells the origin of the Iroquois Confederacy, which the very foundation of our democratic system of government in Canada was formed. This decision making model where all voices were respected and heard is the basis for Canadian values and beliefs. Our students are passionate about sharing this important story of our Indigenous communities in the hopes that this can be one of our gifts to Canada.
Nature of the Project Reach
To inspire others with our project and encourage Canadians to inquire about our Iroquois Confederacy and the roots of this legend.
Share a scared teaching from our Indigenous people.
Honor those who came before us and built our nation's values.
Give back to our community by sharing this historical story.
We perform our play next week, but others could connect with us about our project.
