Glow- Downtown Winter Light Festival
Start date: 17 February, 2017
End date: 20 February, 2017
The Calgary Downtown Association (CDA) is pleased to launch the inaugural run of Glow – A downtown winter light festival over the Family Day long weekend 2017. Light is symbolically an important source of life for both a city’s well being and ones’ individual’s health. Whether it be seasonal affective disorders or the effects of subzero temperatures on barren concrete, the warm glow of bright light is often the remedy. Glow2017 looks to fill in the darkness during our typically coldest and challenging month of the year. We look forward to warming up winter and lighting up the downtown with one-of-a-kind installations, projections, and interactive art from national and local designers.
Nature of the Project Reach
A unique winter light festival has the capacity to bring in destination visitors to our City, and especially rubber tire market from neighboring cities into our downtown core. Other festivals, with growth, have shown significant economic return for their investment. We have selected artists from our local, national and some international submission to showcase something new and exciting to our City.
