From Far and Wide - O Canada
Start date: 10 June, 2017
End date: 10 June, 2017
Celebrating the strength and talents of our country, as we commemorate Canada’s 150th Birthday. This concert will feature works by Canadian composers and arrangers. From rollicking folksongs from the Maritimes to lush sacred works by iconic composers like Imant Raminsh and Healy Willan. We will present “Songs for a Prospector” by Stephen Chatman; “My Heart’s in the Highlands” by David Millard; Stan Rogers' "Make and Break Harbour" arranged by Ron Smail with special choreographed offerings from the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra; and a grand finale set of songs for orchestra and choir including works by Alistair MacGillivray and Bob Buckley. Our pride will be palpable during this show!
Nature of the Project Reach
The Lower Mainland of British Columbia with projected repeat concerts on the Sunshine Coast and/or the Southern Gulf Islands
To possibly inform and certainly entertain our audience with the richness and variety of Canadian choral compositions written in the early years of Confederation, during the 20th Century, and Today.
Financial assistance with travel costs for choir, leads, and accompanying ensemble thus making possible the projected "out of town" presentation of this valuable "Canadian Content" artistic endeavour.
