Celebrating Inclusion Through The Arts
Start date: 1 January, 2017
End date: 31 December, 2017
Through the arts we will provide various opportunities for people with and without disabilities to
celebrate Canada's 150 with our community.
Nature of the Project Reach
We anticipate reaching around 3000 people across the community of Huntsville Ontario through the durration of the 2017 year and various Canada 150 events.
Huntsville strives to build a healthy, inclusive and vibrant community. Huntsville is rich in the arts
culture; however there are people who have been excluded from participating. Physical and
financial barriers to accessibility exist. Typically involvement of people with disabilities might be
on a volunteer basis; being behind the scenes. We want to create opportunities where they are the
performer/artist in the spotlight alongside their fellow community members. Our project will
address this gap and fill the strategic need.
Our intention is to be visible at Canada 150 celebratory events. Spectators will be exposed to
people of differing abilities participating in something that they may have not thought possible. It
is about fostering educational outreach where the public witnesses inclusion in an activity that is
highly regarded and appreciated. If attitudinal barriers exist, these would be positive opportunities
to shift perceptions of disability.
Though dance and visual arts, we will facilitate the message of belonging in a unique and
professional manner as well as providing an opportunity to appreciate each other for our abilities.
All community will be invited to participate in artistic installations and dance performances that
will take place at scheduled Canada 150 events; bringing people together to learn from one
