Canada's 150 Years Celebration @ One Day for Kids
Start date: 19 August, 2017
End date: 19 August, 2017
To celebrate Canada’s sesquicentennial, low income families from five London Housing communities will be invited to an event, which will include recreational, physical and educational activities related to Canada's culture and history. Prizes, entertainment, tote bags filled with useful school supplies (including backpacks), and food at no cost to them will be given away to all children who attend the event.
Our activities include a puppet show teaching children values such as respect and tolerance, for which Canada is recognized worldwide. Other activities include sports, entertainment, cooking class, dental hygiene demonstrations, financial advice, arts and crafts, and more. These activities will encourage children to learn about their contribution and transformation they have made, and can still make in the development of this great nation.
The park will be decorated with Canadian flags, and have different educational messages about each province and territory. Volunteers will be wearing costumes of historical Canadian characters, to further embrace the richly diverse culture of Canada.
Nature of the Project Reach
This project aims to reach low income families with children 0-12 years of age from five London Housing communities.
To inspire a deeper appreciation for the principles in which all individual communities have come together to build this nation. Our hope is that the event results in much needed happiness, education about Canada, values, food, school supplies, and a sense of belongingness to this incredible nation.
