Art Place 2017 Artists-in Residence
Start date: 1 November, 2016
End date: 2 April, 2017
Art Place is a community arts engagement program designed to make the arts accessible to a diverse range of citizens in the city of Ottawa. The program brings together professional artists and the community to co-create, engage in meaningful conversations and address social issues. Art Place takes artists out of their studios and places them in the heart of Ottawa communities at local non-profit social agency sites. This innovative program provides artistic outlets for Ottawa residents who have little or no access to the arts, and amplifies the voice of underserved communities to tell and share their stories.
Nature of the Project Reach
Clients of eight community social agencies in Ottawa will partner with local artists to tell their stories through the arts in 2017.
#1 Access to the arts:
Provide arts engagement opportunities to under-served citizens, communities and groups who face barriers in accessing arts programing to engage and collaborate in artist-led projects
#2 Provide professional artists with opportunities to co-create with community groups, address social issues and engage in meaningful conversations.
#3 Stimulate arts engagement activities
Artists create ongoing collaborations with community partner organizations so that participants may continue to participate and engage in artistic activities to tell their stories.
#4 Public Profile of arts and social issues:
Build greater awareness of the community issues highlighted through the projects and their artistic creators.
