Alberta Society of Fiddlers 25th Anniversary Celebration Marathon

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Alberta Society of Fiddlers, a 25 hour non-stop fiddling marathon will take place in Lacombe Alberta. The marathon will a documented event which will commence at 4:00 p.m. Friday May 19th and will continue until 5:00 pm May 20th. A banquet supper and old tyme dance will follow on the Saturday evening. Information details are posted on the ASF website albertafiddlers.com.
Nature of the Project Reach
This event will help promote the rich heritage of fiddle music that occurs across the country. It is a grass roots heritage that reaches out to all ages and the many cultures that pioneered this great country and help ensure that this genre of music is passed on to the next generation.
The ASF marathon is intended to have a commemorative celebration as a society, and to also challenge other fiddling groups across Canada help create an awareness of the fiddling heritage by hosting similar public events in their own communities. The marathon will be a documented event with video/sound recordings and a completed log book of participants, music selections played, and continuous play of 25 hours.
